Katie believes that in our roles as parents, teachers, or citizens, we each have important responsibilities to work for an equitable society.
Katie is a teacher educator with a BA in Elementary Education from Wake Forest University and a MEd in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at Austin. She is a co-director and teacher consultant with the Heart of Texas Writing Project and has worked as an adjunct lecturer in Curriculum and Instruction at UT Austin teaching pre-service teachers how to implement Writing Workshop in Elementary School classrooms. Katie is a bilingual, National Board Certified teacher who has taught in public, private, and public charter schools that serve K-8th grade students of diverse linguistic, socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds in Fairfax County, Virginia, Austin, Texas, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Katie is from the Washington, DC area and has lived in Austin for 12 years. She and her husband, Rob, are raising their children, Maya and Fritz, to be bilingual Austinites who, they hope, will be part of a generation that is empowered as agents of change in the world.
